CEO's Message

The WFUMB 2009 medical ultrasound congress is for radiologists and sonographers too – don’t miss it!

Professor Rob Gibson, Congress Convenor, has created a diverse and exciting program that provides something for everyone who is associated with ultrasound.

If you haven’t checked the current program for WFUMB 2009 Medical Ultrasound Congress lately by visiting the website you will be amazed by the extensive range of sessions and workshops.

As an example, there are numerous sessions and workshops on musculoskeletal ultrasound and new techniques for breast ultrasound including elastography.

There will also be updates on upper abdominal ultrasound including:

  • Contrast enhanced ultrasound for liver and renal applications. Liver contrast ultrasound is now “ready for prime-time”.
  • Liver cancer – screening, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Liver elastography
  • Interventional ultrasound- new techniques including ablative techniques and HIFU.

The program is extremely rich in musculoskeletal, breast, ObGyn, vascular, small parts, cardiac, paediatrics and technical developments.

The exhibitors will be showcasing their latest equipment which provides a tremendous opportunity to watch and learn how the latest technology can change the way you work.

Finally I want to draw your attention to provision of the live scanning workshops that have been added to the on-line program.

New supporting sponsors

I am delighted to announce that the Australian Diagnostic Imaging Association has agreed to be a supporting sponsor. The ADIA was formed in 1999 to promote the practice of private radiology performed by specialist radiologists within Australia. The Association works to ensure the continued sustainability of comprehensive private specialist radiology practice. It consults with government and other appropriate bodies on matters relating to the funding and delivery of radiology services. ADIA’s weblink is www.adia.asn.au

At the time of writing, I have met with the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (DOHA), and I am so pleased to advise that they will become supporting sponsors of the congress. ASUM has a good professional working relationship with DOHA and contributes by working towards common objectives for standards, accreditation and quality in health care issues in Australia.
