WFUMB 2009 e-News #5

Sponsor's Messages

Welcome to our third newsletter and in this edition you will see detailed information on the scientific and technical program from Professor Ron Benzie (President, ASUM) and Professor Rob Gibson (Congress Convenor) and there is no doubt this will be an extremely important and exciting Congress.

I would like to remind all delegates that we have extended the submission date for abstracts from 28 November 2008 to 23 January 2009. Abstracts are invited for oral and poster presentations. If you wish to submit an abstract for consideration by the Scientific Committee you must also intend to register for the Congress. On-line submission is the only method of receipt of abstracts. Abstracts submitted via email or fax WILL NOT be accepted.

I recently travelled with Professor Benzie and Professor Gibson to the 94th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago, Illinois. It is the largest medical meeting in the world, with more than 60,000 attendees. The scientific program and technical exhibition draw more than 27,000 healthcare professionals from more than 100 countries.

Ultrasound scientific and technical exhibits featured prominently amongst many other imaging technologies at this congress. It is clear ultrasound maintains its significant role in medical imaging with many technological advances and their applications being showcased. Ultrasound’s low price, portability, lack of ionizing radiation and considerable advances sees it retaining its competitive edge compared to other imaging modalities.

The RSNA and many other imaging meetings in different parts of the world are great ultrasound preludes to the WFUMB Congress in 2009. There is considerable interest from potential attendees including delegates and exhibitors, who are all excited about the unique opportunity to come to Sydney for the world’s largest medical ultrasound congress to be held over 5 days from Sunday 30 August to Thursday 3 September 2009.

The WINFOCUS (Critical Care) Congress is also being held at the same venue immediately from 4 – 6 September 2009 and a component of its program will overlap with the WFUMB 2009 Congress.

WFUMB 2009 in Sydney is 100% dedicated to medical ultrasound, encompassing ultrasound science, clinical applications, suppliers and purchasers of medical ultrasound technology, facilitating improved  clinical care for patients, through better use of ultrasound.

It appears likely that with technological developments and expanding clinical applications, ultrasound will become the “sophisticated stethoscope” of many clinicians around the world. Meanwhile, dedicated ultrasound specialists will continue to advance their services through the applications of new technologies.   These two emerging and distinct facets of ultrasound practice will stimulate interest and demand for increased training, certification and meetings.

The WFUMB 2009 World Medical Ultrasound Congress will be the greatest opportunity ever to be part of the cutting edge of ultrasound ideas and knowledge whilst networking with world leaders in ultrasound, in a truly international setting in Sydney, one of the most beautiful cities in the world

Finally please don’t forget that early Registration is due by March 28 otherwise you will incur the late Registration fee which is payable up until July 2009.

Below you will see the key aspects of the scientific and technical program that has been put together by Professor Ron Benzie and Professor Rob Gibson.

At this time I would wish you all a joyous and peaceful Christmas and Festive Season and a wonderful New Year and I look forward to welcoming you in Sydney in August.
