WFUMB 2009 e-News #2

CEO's Message

Hello and welcome to the second edition of our e.Newletters.

In this edition there are a number of extremely important good news stories to tell.  Log on to www.wfumb2009.com for details, to register and to submit an abstract now.

For the first time participants will be able to experience and choose from almost all disciplines of hands-on workshops with Sonographers and Doctors working together with the latest in imaging technology at this world medical ultrasound congress.

For participants from developing nations, hands-on workshops are a unique experience that they normally would not be able to experience in their own country. Not only will they gain valuable hands-on experience they will be able to mix with experts from all parts of the world who are at the cutting edge of our area of medicine. Sydney hosted the summer Olympics for athletes in 2000 and this will be the Olympics of Ultrasound in the same city in 2009.

Workshops are generally booked out quickly and have proven to be most popular and great value to participants.

I would also like to congratulate Professor Rob Gibson who is leading the development of the scientific program and in the short time Rob has come on board as Convenor we can see the benefit of his incredible energy and expertise. The program being put together by Rob and the sub-committees is generating a lot of interest and discussion around the industry.

Finally let me welcome Supersonic, Siemens, Zonare and Qld X-Ray as sponsors – it is terrific to see the support we are getting from industry for this extremely unique Sydney Congress. We are grateful for the continuing support of Toshiba, GE Healthcare, Philips and Medison as our Major sponsors. Exhibition space is at a premium and has already been booked by companies such as Elservier Australia, Sonosite, I-Med Network, Lantheus Medical Imaging, BK Medical and the Department of State and Regional Development.

I believe the trip to Sydney will present all those who attend with enormous value for money, and right now there isn’t a better time to book your trip with the Australian dollar being extremely good value against the US dollar, and remember as part of the delegate’s package, lunch as well as morning and afternoon tea is provided during the Congress.

Sydney is a world-class convention destination with temperate climate, stunning scenery in a friendly and safe social structure. ASUM is dedicated to ensuring a successful scientific, educational and social congress in this modern and beautiful city.  We can promise you an exciting and successful congress with a unique Australian flavour and we have had tremendous support from the Business Events Sydney (previously called Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau), the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Australian Tourism and the Department of State and Regional Development. All of these supporters have considerable experience in hosting large international scientific and medical congresses.

You will hear more in the next e newsletter from our new President, Professor Ron Benzie and the Congress Convenor, Prof Rob Gibson.
