We now have just over four months to the Congress and have had a tremendous response to our call for Abstracts.

There are almost 1500 abstracts that are currently being judged for oral and poster presentation and we anticipate that the total number of presentations – oral and poster – for the Congress will be close to 2000.

This is a marvellous response and it has led to the Program Committee reviewing, and increasing, the number of oral presentation slots in the Program and is clearly indicative of the high level of participation that we are expecting at the Cairns Convention Centre in June.

On that note you should be aware that we have a little more than six weeks until the early Registration closing date on March 27, so commit now, and take advantage of the favourable exchange rates

There is no better way of seeing what you can expect during your visit to Cairns than by viewing our video invitation message on the website.

For those of you in the northern hemisphere you wont be missing out on summer because June is the beginning of the dry season in Australia’s tropical north and the weather ranges between 18 and 26 degrees Celsius.

The detailed program is almost finalised so keep watching the website as we work towards delivering the most comprehensive and interesting scientific and specialty meetings possible.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits will be approved in the near future and details will be publicised along with completion of the scientific program.

One of the features within the surgical specialty meeting will be the Stella Van Praagh lecture to be give by Professor Robert Anderson and we are delighted that Dr Richard Van Praagh has agreed to join us for the lecture and the Congress

Many of you will know that Stella was a pathologist in Boston who was greatly loved by all trainees and renowned as an extremely passionate inspirational teacher.

Senior Cardiologist, Royal Children's Hospital, VIC
