Welcome to this second e-Newsletter regarding the 5th World Congress of Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery to be held in Cairns, Australia in June 2009.

Abstracts and registrations for the meeting are beginning to come in and we recommend that delegates consider registering early as the current exchange rates are unusually good, for many overseas countries, and may well change towards a less favourable rate in the weeks ahead? At the current rate of exchange, full registration for the World Congress is less than US$900 and €700.

The abstract deadline has been changed to accommodate the needs of sub specialty meetings and is now: Friday Jan 2nd 2009

The Congress, which is, as you know, entitled “Beyond the Barrier” will present a very comprehensive and exciting scientific program.

One of the major attractions, being included for the first time, is the series of eight parallel specialty meetings, which may be considered as “incorporated satellite meetings”. All delegates will be able to choose to attend the specialty meeting of their choice during the first part of the congress.

The eight sub-specialty meetings are being co-hosted by several other specialty groups and will allow the World Congress to bring together the talents of the world’s leading figures in each of these important arenas and to discuss the frontiers and leading edge advances as well as to provide a broad range of educational opportunities for trainees.

This will be a unique opportunity for specialists and trainees from each of these different areas, which are so vital to the care of children and adults with Congenital Heart Defects, to come together at the same meeting. It will, we hope, provide a lively dialogue that will be important for delegates at the congress and for industrial sponsors who will have an opportunity that will not happen again for several years – at the next World Congress in Cape Town in 2013.

We thank you for your continued interest.
